Holidays are a great way for us to rest, recuperate, and get a break from everyday lives. However, it’s not uncommon for holidaymakers to be let down by their travel provider, and have their holiday ruined. If a company you have booked with doesn’t properly assess the safety of the accommodation, people can be prone to bugs and other illnesses, especially where food hygiene is concerned. There is also great risk of accidents abroad, where warnings may not be translated, of the health and safety laws not as comprehensive as our own. If you suffered in any way whilst being on holiday abroad, you may be entitled to claim compensation. But there is only a two-year window, as opposed to the three-year window in other personal injury claims.

A holidaymaker has been given compensation of £23,000 after slipping on wet stairs whilst on holiday in Turkey. The injured party had been returning to his hotel from visiting the hotel’s facilities which was adjoined by an underpass accessed by a flight of stairs. The stairs were being hosed down and cleaned at the time the claimant was returning to the hotel when he slipped and fell, causing fractures to his wrist bone and damage to his cartilage. A British family has described their all-inclusive Thomas Cook break as a ‘holiday from hell’. Alan and Sarah O’Rourke from Cheshire had high expectations after spending £1,500 on the family holiday at the four-star Cabogata Mar Hotel & Spa in Spain, which were quickly shattered. One of the country’s top lawyers is to receive £300,000 in personal injury compensation after she was attacked by a rampaging elephant while on safari in Africa. She has sued the safari firm and her guide following the accident. Caroline Pratte suffered multiple fractures and abdominal wounds in the attack that happened on an exclusive holiday in South Luangwa National Park in Zambia in October 2010. Doctors have informed 46-year-old Des Jarvis that he will never work again following a waterslide accident that happened when he was on holiday in Turkey. The father-of-two from Peterborough has been left with one leg shorter than the other following multiple operations to save his leg.
